LONG BEACH -- Senior Bryan Bergna and junior Tyler Torano each shot a career-record 66 in the first round of the Del Walker Intercollegiate Golf Classic to help lift the Lions to a tie for second with host Long Beach State entering the nine-team tournament's final round on Tuesday morning.
Torano sits in second after Monday's two rounds, following his 66 with a second round 70 to post a four-under 136. His opening round included five birdies as he is one stroke behind Pacific's Alex Edfort as play continues at Virginia Country Club in Long Beach, Calif.
Bergna is a tie for fifth with a one-under par 139, shooting a 73 in his second round. He is just four strokes behind the leader.
The Lions and Long Beach State with eight strokes behind leader Pacific and four strokes ahead of fourth place Cal State Fullerton.
Rounding out the Lions' scoring is Eduardo Chavez in a tie for 22nd with a two-round score of 145, followed by Boris Stantchev in a tie for 26th two strokes behind at 147 and freshman Connor Campbell in a tie for 30th with a 148.
Chase Nicolai and Tyler Little are representing the Lions as individuals and they sit in ties at 22nd and 26th, respectively. Nicolai shot rounds of 71 and 74 while Little hit 73 and 74.
