Torano Does It Again
Junior claims Individual Championship at Del Walker Intercollegiate with seven-under 203, earning a four-stroke win as Lions finish third.

LONG BEACH -- Junior Tyler Torano shot a final round 67, the best round in the field of 57 on the day, to win the individual championship of the 2013 Del Walker Intercollegiate Golf Classic at Virginia Country Club in Long Beach, Calif., Tuesday. Torano finished the tournament with a seven-under 203, winning by four strokes.
He led the Lions to a third place finish as the Lions finished with a final round of 283 and a three-round score of 847. They finish six strokes behind Pacific, who finished second. Host Long Beach State won the tournament thanks to a final round of 274, posting a final score of 838.
This is Torano's second straight first place finish and fourth of his career. It is first outright title in regulation as his other three first place finishes were ties. He hit four birdies on the round and finished three-under on the par-70 course.
He is the first golfer since Brian Locke in 2007 to win back-to-back titles. Torano has hit five straight rounds of par or better dating back to his win last week at the Folino Men's Invitational. He already has 10 rounds of par or better on the season. He had 12 a year ago.
Joining Torano in the top-five was senior Bryan Bergna, who posted a final round 71 to finished tied at fifth with a 210. Also shooting 71s on the day was freshmen Connor Campbell and Chase Nicolai, who was playing as an individual.
Nicolai finished tied for 21st overall with a final three-round score of 216. Campbell finished in a tie for 26th with a score of 219. Tied with Campbell was senior Eduardo Chavez, who shot a final round of 74.
Rounding out the Lions' team scores was senior Boris Stantchev with a final round 75, finishing with a 222 and in a tie for 33rd. Sophomore Tyler Little also played as an individual, finishing in a tie for 29th with a final score of 220. He posted a 73 on the final round.
After three straight tournaments, the Lions have a week off and will next travel to the Sacramento State Intercollegiate Cup on March 11-12 at Valley Hi Country Club.
