Freshman Leads Lions After Day One

-- LMU freshman Connor Campbell finished the first day of the 33rd Annual Anteater Invitational at El Niguel Country Club in a tie for third place, just two strokes behind the leader after the first two rounds on Monday.

In a day where scores where high and just one player finished under par, Campbell posted a first round 70 and a second round 75 to finish with a two-round 145 entering in Tuesday's final round. He sits one stroke behind Travel Russel of host UC Irvine and two strokes behind leader Daniel Chian of Long Beach State.

As a team, the Lions sit in sixth place at the 11-team tournament. They finished with a two-round 607, one stroke behind Santa Clara for fifth place. Cal State Fullerton leads the field with a 593.

Sitting in second for the LIons is senior Bryan Bergna, who posted a four-over 148 and is in 11th place.

Rounding out the LMU scores junior Tyler Torano with a 153, senior Eduardo Chavez with a 163 and senior Boris Stantchev with a 164.

Freshman Chase Nicolai played as an individual and is in a tie for 22nd after a two-round 152.
