PROVO, Utah – The West Coast Conference Tournament is underway at Riverside Country Club and Loyola Marymount is two strokes under par. The Lions shot an opening round 286 on the Par 72, 7013-yard course.

“Overall we are in a good position, but need to step it up the next couple days if we are going to make a run at the title,” said Head Coach Jason D’Amore.

The 47th-ranked and Brigham Young Cougars lead the field after shooting nine-under, 279 on their home course. St. Mary’s sits in second with their five-under, 283 opening performance, and #22 Pepperdine and Santa Clara sit even with LMU at seven-back from the leaders.

Riley Elmes leads the Lions with his 68 on the first day. Elmes is tied for second overall on the player leaderboard with BYU’s Patrick Fishburn and Gonzaga’s Angus Montgomery at four-under.

Both Elmes and Billy Pollock have hit six birdies thus far, the second most in the tournament. Pollock’s 69 in the opening round has him positioned in the top-five of the field.

“Billy played well today and showed a lot of heart after a tough week last week,” said D’Amore. “Riley played well again and I'd expect him to continue that the next two days.”

The remaining three LMU golfers are just a stroke apart from each other. Nick Jan (74) is tied for 26th, Blake Meek (75) is tied for 36th, and Mason Glinski (76) is tied for 38th.

Round two will be played on Friday and the final round and tournament will conclude on Saturday.
