Lincoln, NEB (Sept. 12) - The Loyola Marymount University men's golf team opened the 2005-06 season with the first two rounds of the Fairway Club Invitational hosted by the University of Nebraska on Monday, placing eighth out of 13 teams after the first 36 holes.

Battling windy conditions, the Lions posted rounds of 300 and 316 to sit one stroke a head of Army with a 616 and one behind Northern Iowa, who is in seventh with a 615. Leading the field is host Nebraska with a 583.

The Lions opened the season with a starting five featuring two freshmen, a sophomore, junior and senior. Giving the Lions a one-two punch was sophomore and reigning West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year Jason D'Amore and freshman Brian Locke. The South Bay duo finished the first two rounds with 150. Locke began his collegiate career with a opening round of 73, tied for the lowest on the day for the Lions with senior Chaz Inouye.

Louke finished with a second round 77 while D'Amore shot rounds of 76 and 74. They both are in a tie for 12th. Inouye is third for the Lions and tied for 31st overall with a 154. Junior Brendan von Doehren shot a 162 for a tie at 55th and freshman Sherwin Kim shot a 172 for 67th.

The final round will be played on Tuesday in Lincoln.
