Freshman Leads Lions at Invitational

LAYTON, Utah-- Despite a tough field of competition the Lions were able to come out of the Purple and Red Invitational in 9th place out of 16 teams. The Lions finished with a combined teams score of 882, finishing 3 strokes behind 8th place Cal Poly and 3 strokes ahead of 10th place Air Force and Utah. LMU came out strong the first day with a first round total of 288 but slipped steadily in the second and third rounds with scores of 291 and 303 respectively.

The standout player of the two day tournament for the Lions was freshman Tyler Torano who secured his first top 10 finish of his collegiate career with a tie for 6th place. Torano shot a 213 finishing 3 under par while shooting rounds of 69, 71, and 73 respectively. Junior Jake Sarnoff finished the tournament in a tie for 34th shooting 221. Behind him was sophomore Bryan Bergna in a tie for 41st. Senior John Lim finished in 72nd while sophomore Boris Stantchev ended the two day tournament in a tie for 83rd.

Coming out on top was Sacramento State, edging out favored Washington State by one stroke. Sac State finished with a combined team score of 857. Each top 4 team finished one stroke behind the other with Portland finishing in 3rd and host Weber State in 4th.

The Lions will be back in action in two weeks for the Saint Mary's Invitational October 25th and 26th.
