As Lone Team Under Par, Men’s Golf Leads Southern Dunes

MARICOPA, Ariz. – Only one team shot under par through 36 holes Wyoming’s Southern Dunes Invitational Saturday. Loyola Marymount men’s golf (294-279—573) jumped up to first place after shooting a day’s best 279 in the second round.

“Great day overall with some phenomenal play from Riley,” said Head Coach Jason D’Amore. “Everyone contributed today and grinded through the heat. Looking forward to having another good day tomorrow and bringing home some hardware.”

LMU used a 9-under second round to move from fourth to first between the first two rounds. The Lions lead the field with 108 par holes and are tied for most with 33 birdies.

Riley Elmes sits atop the overall leaderboard with his 69-65—134. Elmes used a 7-under second round to swap places with second-place Brian Humphreys of Boise State.

Two more Lions are in the top 20, with Matthew Carungay (76-70—146) in a tie for 14th and Mason Glinski (75-72—147) tied for 18th.

Samuel Su is in a tie for 36th after shooting 74-77—151 and Cameron Meeks is also within the top 50 with his two rounds of 82-72—154.



Competing as an individual, Justin Egelske shot a strong 74-69—143 to situate himself in a tie for sixth place. 

Nick Jan is LMU’s other golfer competing as an individual, finishing Saturday in the top 50 with his 75-70—154.

D’Amore added that the weather was mid to high 90’s with very little wind and very firm and fast conditions.
