MARICOPA, Ariz. – Riley Elmes shot a career-best 69-65-70—204 to secure his first collegiate tournament title with Loyola Marymount. LMU added a top-10 finish and a top-15 finish to help the Lions (294-279-283—856) secure second overall at University of Wyoming’s Southern Dunes Invitational.
Elmes finished two strokes better than his closest competition and held his lead from the end of Saturday. His 204 is one-stroke off the LMU all-time 54-hole low and he becomes the 25th golfer in program history to earn a first-place tournament finish.
“Riley played outstanding golf,” said Head Coach Jason D’Amore. “12-under on this golf course was so impressive. He is very overdue for this win and we can’t wait to watch the floodgates open for him now.”
LMU’s team finish is the second time the Lions have finished in the top two of a tournament under D’Amore. University of Wyoming used an 11-under final round to jump LMU on Sunday and take the team title with their 288-289-277—854.
“Congrats to Wyoming today and their great final round,” said D’Amore. “They had a guy get really hot. For us to be in the lead and go out and shoot 5 under is very impressive. I’m proud of this group of guys. We continue to get better each event and it’s exciting to be a part of.”
Matthew Carungay (76-70-70—216) finished tied for 10th after posting back-to-back rounds of 70 to end the tournament.
Mason Glinski placed in a tie for 15th after shooting 75-72-72—219.
LMU added an individual top-20, with Justin Egelske (74-69-77—200) tying for 18th.
Also competing as an individual, Nick Jan (79-75-76—230) tied for 56th.
