Freshman Leads Lions Again
Men's golf finishes Del Walker in 15th place.

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Freshman Boris Stantchev led the LMU men's golf team with a three-round score of 212 at the 14th Annual Del Walker Intercollegiate Golf Classic held a the Virginia Country Club in Long Beach, Calif., Thursday and Friday, Oct. 22-23.
Stantchev posted rounds of 73, 68 and 71 to finish in a tie for 31st in the field of 98 golfers. Just one stroke behind him was sophomore Jake Sarnoff in a tie for 34th. His final score of 213 featured rounds of 69, 70 and 74.
Sophomore John Lim was in a tie for 46th with a final score of 215 thanks to rounds of 68, 77 and 70. His third round score was the best for the Lions in the final day. Senior Blake Nicolai finished in a tie for 69th after rounds of 73, 73 and 75, good for a total of 221.
The Del Walker featured a different scoring system as six golfers competed for the team score with the lowest five scores each round counting toward the team total. Normally, it is a team of five with the best four scores counting. Thus, the Lions finished with a team rounds of 358, 363 and 369 for a final score of 1090, good for 15th in the 16-team field.
The larger team size gave opportunities for Brandin Cohen and Andrew Waldron to make their first appearances this season. They rounded out the Lions scoring with final scores of 229 and 238 respectively.
The Lions get no rest as they head to the Kauai Collegiate Invitational, which starts Monday, Oct. 26 and runs through Wednesday, Oct. 28 at the Puakea Golf Club in Lihue Kauai, HI.
