SEASIDE, Calif—The Lions close out their fall season with a seventh place finish at the Saint Mary’s Invitational. After scoring a team total of 895, the Lions finished in the middle of the 15 team field. LMU finished 2 strokes ahead of 8th place Cal Poly and 5 strokes behind 6th place Miami of Ohio. The Lions shot, as a team, rounds of 301, 292, and 302 respectively.
The top finisher for the Lions, individually, was junior Jake Sarnoff who finished the tournament in a tie for 14th place overall in a field of 82 players. Sarnoff finished the two say tournament shooting +5 while going two over par in rounds 1 and 3 and one over par in round 2. Behind Sarnoff was freshmen Tyler Torano who finished in a tie for 18th place overall with a final score of 222 after 3 rounds. This is the second top twenty finish for Torano and Sarnoff in the 2010-2011 season. Sophomore Bryan Bergna closed out the tournament in a tie for 40th place while sophomore Eduardo Chaves stood on his own in 54th place. Senior John Lim rounded out the Lions in a tie for 57th place overall.
The University of Notre Dame took the top title in the tournament shooting three under par as a team with an overall score of 861. Following Notre Dame from 20 strokes behind was WCC rival and host Saint Mary’s in second place with an 881 team score and +17.
The Saint Mary’s Invitational marks the end of the fall season for the Lions. Looking towards the New Year, LMU men’s golf will face new challenges in the quest for the WCC Title. The Lions will be back in action February 7th and 8th at the Anteater Classic looking to be better then ever.
