LOS ANGELES -- The championship portion of the season begins this Monday and Tuesday for the LMU men's golf team at the 2014 Arizona Intercollegiate, hosted by Sewailo Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz.

A trio of newcomer have joined the Lions roster as the spring semester begins, and first-year Head Coach Brad Lanning sat down with LMU Sports Network to talk about the newcomers and the start of the spring season.

New to the Lions' roster this spring is Ohio State freshman Transfer Nick Jan, Oglethorpe University sophomore transfer Braden Baer and freshman walk-on Kornelijus Baliukonis, who is from Vilnius, Lithuania. Baliukonis is in his first year at LMU and earned a walk-on spot to the Lions' roster.

Jan is a native of Northbrook, Ill., graduating from Glenbrook North High School. He attended Ohio State before transferring to LMU following the fall semester.

Jan was a two-time conference champion (2009, 2011) and was the 2012 runner-up, while being named all-conference four years in a row at Glenbrook. Ranked No. 44 on Golfweek's Class of 2013 list, Jan had an excellent summer season in 2012 as he reached match play at the 2012 USGA Junior Amateur after finishing 18th in stroke play. He totaled three Top-3 finishes in AJGA events, including a second-place finish at the Stonehenge AJGA Junior Open.

Baer is a native of Westimester, Colo., graduating from Mountain Range HS in 2012. He comes from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, GA. He won the individual medal honors, winning the Southern Athletic Association championship for Oglethorpe last April. He posted a three-under 141 to be named SAA Player of the Year and SAA Freshman of the Year.

Baer will join senior Tyler Torano, sophomore Connor Campbell, and freshmen Blake Meek and Nick Cantlay as the Lions' line-up for the Arizona Intercollegiate.

The tournament will feature a 14-team field, and in addition to host Arizona and the Lions, the field will include Arkansas Little Rock, BYU, Cal State Fullerton, California, George Washington, James Madison, New MExico, New Mexico STate, Oregon State, Pacific, UC Riverside and UTEP.

Sewailo Golf Club is a par-72 course that will play 7,282 yards. Follow the tournament live on
