Regionals Begin Thursday for Torano
Tyler Torano will play in his second straight NCAA regional when he tees off at 10:12 am Thursday.

EUGENE, Ore. - The 2014 NCAA Eugene Regional will be on some familiar ground for senior Tyler Torano when he gets the first round started from Eugene Country Club on Thursday. Torano will tee-off his second straight regional appearance at 10:12 am.
Torano and the Lions played at the Duck Invitational in Eugene on Mar. 24-25 as they finished 5th out of 16 teams. For Torano, he posted a two-over 218 to finish in a tie for sixth.
He will play the first round with Byron Meth of Pacific and Northern Colorado's Conner Barr. They will start from the first hole at the Eugene Country Club, which has hosted the 1952 National Junior JC Championship, 1959 NCAA Men's Championship, 1961 Women's Trans-Mississippi Championship, 1964 U.S. Junior Boy's Championship, 1974 Women's Trans-National Championship, 1978 NCAA Men's Championship , 1993 U.S. Men's Mid-Amateur Championship, 2002 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship, and the 2008 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship.
Torano has led the Lions the last three seasons in stroke average and enters with a 73.0 average. His best score this season came with a five-under 211 at Stanford's The Goodwin. He had a low round of 68 in the first day of that tournament.
In last seasons regional, Torano posted a two-over 212 at NCAA Tempe Regional hosted by Arizona State at Karsten Golf Course. He finished in a tie for 30th out of 75 players.
This will be the sixth regional appearance for the Lions since 2006. The Lions advanced as a team to the NCAA Championships, which was also in Oregon. The last four trips to the regionals have been by individuals, including Brian Locke (2007, 2008), Jason D'Amore (2008), Greg Moss (2009), and Torano (2013).
Locke had the Lions' best regional with a 13-under 203 at the NCAA West Regional on May 19, 2007.
