LMU sophomore Blake Nicolai has qualified for the California Amateur Golf Championships, to be held June 16-21 at Lakeside Country Club in Toluca Lake and Oakmont Country Club in Glendale. Nicolai was one of 78 players to qualify from eight Southern California qualifying sites to advance to the 156-player state championship.

Nicolai (Long Beach, CA) emerged from qualifying by tying for second place at the Oceanside qualifying round, held May 19 at El Camino. Nicolai shot a two-under 70 in the 18-hole round and was one shot off first place.

The California Amateur Championship is open to amateur golfers who have established current indexes of 4.4 or below as of April 1, 2008, and are members in good standing of the Southern California Golf Association or the Public Links Golf Association of Southern California. The championship field will play 36 holes of stroke play using Lakeside Golf Club and Oakmont Country Club. Top 32 players will advance from stroke play to single elimination Match Play at Lakeside Golf Club beginning Wednesday and concluding on Saturday with the 36-hole final match.
