LOS ANGELES, Calif. - LMU men's golf senior Greg Moss continues to add to a memorable month as he was named first-team ESPN The Magazine Men's At-Large Academic All-District 8 on Thursday, May 21. With the first-team selection, he is now a nominee for CoSIDA Academic All-America to be voted on later this month. Men's water polo senior Tim Heafner was also honored, earning second-team All-District 8 honors.

Moss was one of 10 members of the District 8 first-team and will now complete for All-America honors. All told 80 student-athletes for a total of eight districts were named first-team and are eligible for All-America status. Three teams of 10 will be recognized as CoSIDA Academic All-American.

It was a dream season for Moss, who won his first-ever tournament at the collegiate level, and it happened to be the West Coast Conference championships. The win earned him an automatic bid in the NCAA West Regional last weekend. Moss graduated LMU this May with a 3.85 GPA in Economics.

Joining Moss with At-Large All-District 8 honors was Heafner. The two-time LMU Student-Athlete of the Year was a team leader on the men's water polo team, helping the program to their sixth Western Water Polo Association title and a third place finish at the 2009 NCAA Championship. Heafner graduated this May with a 3.76 GPA in Business Law.

In each program, the CoSIDA membership votes at the District Level and first-team All-District selections advance to the national ballot. Only members of the Academic All-America Committee and the CoSIDA Board of Directors vote at the national level to determine the Academic All-America teams.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.

In the At-Large program, Heafner and Moss competed against student-athletes in Distirct 8 in the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling. In the At-Large program, nominations are limited to three per school per gender (a total of three men's at-large candidates and three women's at-large candidates).
