Los Angeles, CA - The golf-rich area of southern California continues be a pipeline for the Loyola Marymount men's golf program as Head Coach Alex Galvan announced the Loyola High School's Andrew Waldron has singed a National Letter of Intent to play for the school starting in the fall of 2008.

Waldron, a two-time All-Mission League selection, joins Jake Sarnoff as incoming freshman to LMU this coming August. Sarnoff and Waldron are the ninth and 10th recruit under Galvan in his six years as the head coach of the Lions.

"Southern California is such a wonderful place for golf and we are fortunate to be in the heart of that," said Galvan. "Players from our own backyard have brought our program great success over the years, starting with Jason D'Amore, who graduate this May, and continuing with both Andrew and Jake."

Waldron is no stranger to top-five finishes, placing first at the SCPGA event at Whittier Narrows with a four-under 68, a second place at the IJGT event at Temecula Creek Inn with rounds of 71 and 73, a second place at the Cal State Junior Amateur Qualifier at Simi Hills Golf Course with a three-under 68, a third place at the IJGT event at Pala Mesa Resort with a pair of rounds at 75 and fifth place at the SCPGA at Los Coyotes CC with rounds of 76 and 71.

"Andrew has really improved over the past several seasons," said Galvan. "He really showed that he has the ability to become a top-tier golfer and we are fortunate to have him coming to LMU."

His high school career at Loyola was impressive. The four-year letter-winner was named the team's captain this past season. His 2008 season was highlighted by a 73 in the CIF Western Team Divisional at Montebello Country Club. As a junior, he posted a 75 in the CIF Northern Team Division at Soule Park Golf Course. He low round was a two-under 70 at Rustic Canyon Golf Course.

Waldron started playing golf in 2000 and his swing coach is Kevin Sheller. He is the son of Jon and Michelle Waldron.
