Golfer Adds to Summer Plans

Los Angeles, CA - The summer calendar for junior-to-be Blake Nicolai of the Loyola Marymount men's golf team continues to fill-up as the walk-on from Long Beach, Calif., has qualified for yet another amateur championship. Nicolai has qualified for the 109th Southern California Golf Association Amateur Championship to be held at Saticoy Country Club July 18-20.

Nicolai, who played in 15 rounds for the Lions in 2007-08 after walking on and earning a tryout spot on the roster in 2006-07, also qualified for the 9th CBA Amateur Championship at the Lakeside Golf Club this coming Monday and Tuesday, June 16-17. He will tee off at 10:10 a.m. on Monday.

The Business Administration major earned a spot to the SCGA Amateur Championship with a one-under 71 at the Amateur Qualifying on June 4 at the Empire Lakes Golf Course. He finished in a tie for second with three others as the top-six spots advanced from the qualifier.

His round featured three birdies, all coming on the front nine as he made the turn at two-under. He was near perfect on the back nine, hitting a five on the par-4 13th for his only blemish.
