Torano Latest to Find Summer Success
Tyler Torano wins State Farm Collegiate Open while Jake Sarnoff named golfer of the month.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Tyler Torano, who will be a sophomore for the LMU golf team in 2011-12, shot a two-under 70 in the final round to win the 2011 State Farm Collegiate Open at Empire Lakes Golf Course June 15. Torano was the only player in the field to finish the 54-hole tournament under par.
Torano finished the tournament at eight-under par, shooting rounds of 67, 71 and 70.
The Collegiate Tour, in its 18th year, continues to provide summer golf competition to high school and college men and women ages 17 - 24.
On the first day some of the best high school and college players, along with State Farm Agents \hit the greens at the award winning Empire Lakes in Rancho Cucamonga for a charitable fundraiser benefiting the Claremont West End Auxiliary Children's Fund and the Polio Fund of Rotary International.
The remaining two days, these collegiate golfers will play three rounds of golf vying for top 5 finishes to automatically qualify for the championships where amateur ranking points will be awarded to the top 10 collegians (men and women). The 2011 National Championship for the Collegiate Tour will be held Aug. 8-11 at Texas Star Golf Course in Euless, Texas.
In addition, Jake Sarnoff was featured in the June edition of Southland Golf Magazine as the May 2011 golfer of the month.
The junior on the Loyola Marymount University men's golf team posted a 4-under-par total of 282 to win the 72-hole Pasadena City Championship last month at Brookside Golf Club. Sarnoff, a Santa Monica native who graduated from Mira Costa High School, overtook third-round leader Dan Sullivan with a closing 1-under-par 71 on the C.W. Koiner Course -- the only score in red numbers amid difficult conditions. A month earlier, Sarnoff shot 67-69-72 for an 8-under total to win his first individual collegiate title at the Braveheart Classic at Oak Valley Golf Club.
