Torano, Bergna to Compete in 113th SCGA Amateur Championship

SCGA Online Scoring | SCGA.org | LMU Men's Golf LOS ANGELES - LMU golfers Tyler Torano and Bryan Bergna will be two of 84 of Southern California's top amateur golfers to participate in the 113th SCGA Amateur Championship at Big Canyon Country Club in Newport Beach, July 20-22. All 84 competitors will partake in 36 holes of stroke play during the first day of play, with the top 42 (and ties) advancing on to the final two rounds. Bergna will begin his round on Friday at 7:48 a.m., teeing off from hole 10. Torano will start at 7:39 a.m., going off on hole 1. Being played for its 113th year, the SCGA Amateur Championship has been won by the likes of Tiger Woods, George Von Elm, Charlie Wi and 2011 Champion Patrick Cantlay. Two past champions are in the field, Tim Hogarth (2004) and Scott McGihon (2000, 2005, 2006). Also in the field are five others who recently made it to match play at the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship: Aaron West, Paul Misko and collegians Manav Shah (UCLA), Byron Meth (UOP) and Xander Schauffele (San Diego State). West, Misko, Shah and Meth all lost in the Round of 64 while Schauffele has advanced with Knapp to the Round of 16. Torano will tee-off with Doug Williams of Los Angeles and Mark Manqaring of Long Beach State. Bergna will be paired with Steven Kearney of Carlsbad and Cory Gladstone of San Diego.
