CHERRY HILLS VILLAGE, Colo. -- Junior Tyler Torano shot an opening round 67 to sit in a six-way tie for ninth place after the first round of the 2012 U.S. Amateur Championship hosted by Cherry Hills Country Club in Cherry Hills Village, Colo.

Torano played the first round at a sister course, Common Ground Golf Course in Aurora, Colo. He started on the par-4, 431-yard 10th where he opened with seven straight pars. Then on the par-3, 242-yard 17th, he put his tee shot within an easy put for a birdie. He would hit par on the par-5, 595-yard 18th to start with a one-under for the first nine.

After a par on the first, he would then double bogie the par-3, 152-yard second hole.

He would get the strokes right back on the net hole. Playing the longest hole on the course, 645-yard par-5, Torano wasted no time in hitting an eagle. He would then birdie the next two holes, both par-4. He would finish with four straight pars for a two-under second nine.

He would finish with a three-under 67 on the par-70 course that played 7,427 yards on the day.

Torano will tee off for the second round on the par-71 Cherry Hills Country Club, while will play 7,403 yards. He will get started at 11:35 a.m. (Pacific). For scoring and stats, visit the USGA.org.
