LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The 2011-12 LMU men's golf schedule is one that will feature some traditional tournaments the Lions have traveled to many times before. However, it will also have some new looks as the Lions celebrate the University's Centennial.
The schedule will start with a lot of familiar tournaments, including the same start it did in 2010. The Palouse Cougar Collegiate hosted by Washington State will start things on Sept. 12-13 at Palouse Ridge Golf Course. This will be the third consecutive year the Lions will play in the Palouse.
It will be followed by the Lions fifth straight trip to the Saint Mary's Invitational, which will be Sept. 19-20 at the Bayonet & Black Horse Golf Course in Seaside. After two weeks off, the Lions will play in the Wolf Pack Classic hosted by Nevada on Oct. 3-4 at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Lake Tahoe. This is the third straight year the Lions will play in the Wolf Pack Classic and the 16th time since 1990.
The Lions will then head to Woodranch Golf Course for the 2011 Bill Cullum Invitational hosted by Cal State Northridge on Oct. 17-18. This will be the Lions 10th trip to a tournament hosted by CSUN, the first since earning three straight top three finishes in a row from 2006-07 through 2008-09, winning the Bill Cullum in 2006.
LMU will then head to the Cabo Collegiate in Baja California Sur, Mexico, for the first time in program history. Hosted by Arkansas and Santa Clara, the tournament will take play Oct. 27-29 at Querencia Golf Course to wrap up the fall portion of the schedule.
The spring season will begin with back-to-back tournaments, starting with The Folino Invitational hosted by Cal State Fullerton Feb. 20-21, followed by the North Ranch Intercollegiate hosted by Pepperdine, Feb. 27-28. The Lions played in the Folino for the first time last season and make their first trip to the Pepperdine tournament.
March will also feature a pair of tournaments the Lions played in a year ago, starting with the Bandon Dunes Championship hosted by Gonzaga at the famed Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Ore., March 16-18. The Lions played in the tournament a year ago for the first time.
The other is Barona Collegiate Cup hosted by San Diego State, which will be held in 2012 on March 22-23.
The Lions will then play their final tournament before the West Coast Conference Championships at the 2012 Ogio UCSB Intercollegiate at Sandpiper Golf Course in Goleta, April 2-3. The Lions last played in the Ogio Intercollegiate on April 1, 2008.
The Lions will then head to the WCC Championships at San Juan Oaks Golf Course in Hollister, Calif. The tournament has changed to a three-day format, playing from April 16-18.
