Inside the Lions: Freshman Blake Meek

LOS ANGELES -- The 2013-14 season under first-year Head Coach Brad Lanning begins for the LMU men's golf team on Monday and Tuesday when they play at the 2013 Saint Mary's Invitational, and it won't be just Lanning making his Lion debut on Monday.
The Lions will travel a fairly young behind first-team All-WCC senior Tyler Torano as a pair of freshman - Blake Meek and Nick Cantlay - and a pair of sophomores - Connor Campbell and Chase Nicolai - will make the trip.
LMU Sports Network sat down with one of those newcomers, Meek, the first-year Business major who graduated from Loyola High School. Meek talks about how he got into golf and his expectations for his first tournament as a collegiate golfer.
The SMC Invitational will once again take place at the Bayonet and Black Horse Golf Courses in Seaside, Calif. The tournament has grown in its eight years, as the 2013 field will feature 19 teams and 104 players. In addition to host Saint Mary's and LMU, this year's field includes Akron, Ball St., Cal, CS Northridge, Florida Gulf Coast, Fresno St., Hawaii, Kansas St., Long Beach St., North Carolina St., Oregon, St. Johns, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Clara, UC Irvine and UC Riverside.
The 54-hole tournament will feature the first two rounds played on both courses on Monday, Sept. 23 with the final round on Tuesday, Sept. 24 played on the Bayonet course. Bayonet plays 7,104 yards and is a par 72, with a slope of 141 and a rating of 74.8. Black Horse is 7,024 yards long, a par 72, with a slope of 141 and a rating of 73.7.
