Men's Golf Gets First Look at 2017-18 with Colorado Invitational

LOS ANGELES -- Loyola Marymount men's golf heads to Denver this Monday and Tuesday to open the 2017-18 campaign. The Lions will play in the 8th Annual Mark Simpson-Colorado Invitational from Sept. 25-26 in Erie, Colo. 

"We're really looking to going out to the Colorado National Golf Club," said Head Coach Jason D'Amore. "It's going to be good competition and the guys are really excited to the get the year going. We've had a little bit longer of a wait this year to start the fall season, but everyone looks really strong and ready to go and it should be a good chance to prove ourselves." 

The format will be 36 holes of continuous play (foursomes) on Monday (Sept. 25) with a shotgun format start at 8:15 a.m. (MDT), followed by18 holes on Tuesday (Sept. 26) in a staggered shotgun format (top four teams will play in five tee times off No. 1 beginning at 7:55 a.m.; rest in a shotgun at 8:15).

A total of 19 schools will be participating, (plus a CU "Silver," or "B" team) along with13 individual slots to close out the 108-player field. Air Force, Arkansas-Little Rock, Cal State-Northridge, Colorado, Houston Baptist, Idaho, Loyola-Marymount, Northern Colorado, Oregon State, Seattle, Southern Utah, UC-Riverside, Utah, Utah State, Utah Valley State, UT-Rio Grande Valley, Weber State, Wofford and Wyoming are all playing.

The Lions have a good mix of returners and newcomers that gives D'Amore options when setting his tournament roster each week.

LMU has two seniors on the team in Nick Jan and Billy Pollock. All-WCC Preseason selection Riley Elmes is the loan junior. Mason Glinski and Justin Egelske are joined by transfer Michael Mozilo in the sophomore class. Three freshmen, Samuel Su, Cameron Meeks, and Matthew Carungay, round out the LMU roster.


 

 

D'Amore has named his expected lineup for the Colorado Invitational as Riley Elmes, Justin Egelske, Matthew Carungay, Mason Glinski, and Cameron Meeks.

The Par 72, 7676-yard course will be home to the two-day tournament with live scores available through GolfStat at the link above.
