LOS ANGELES -- The last outing for the LMU men's golf team was one that they would like to forget with three of the five Lions playing at the Cabo Collegiate in Mexico came down with a stomach flu, forcing Connor Campbell and Nick Cantlay to withdrawal. The exception was sophomore Chase Nicolai who went on tie an LMU record in his final round.
Nicolai, in his second season with the Lions, posted a final round of 69, tied with two others for the best final round score. And he did it in record fashion. Nicolai birdied seven of his last eight holes, including his final six, tying Dusty Morton for the school record for consecutive birdies.
"I have never had that many birdies before," said Nicolai, who sat down with the LMU Sports Network to talk about the round, the tournament and the first couple months of his second season.
LMU heads to the Bill Cullum Invitational at Woodranch Golf Course in Simi Valley on Oct. 21-22. They will also play a match-play style exhibition match-up with Hawaii and UC Irvine on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Woodranch.
