Oct. 27, 2003

Santa Clara, CA (Oct. 27) - The Loyola Marymount University men's golf team was supposed to start play in the 2003 Santa Clara Invitational at Silver Creek Country Club on Monday, Oct. 27 and Tuesday, Oct. 28. However, due to the fires in Southern California they could not get out of Los Angeles.

The three-round, nine-team tournament is a 54-hole stroke play format with the best four out of five individual tallies each round counting of the team score. LMU was going to send sophomore Chaz Inouye, senior Joe Legacy, senior Gavin Witzer, freshman Brendan von Doehren and junior Peter Heilbron.

In addition to the Lions, the tournament will feature Gonzaga, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly, Western New Mexico, Stanta Clara and San Francisco. Last year the Lions finished 10th in the Santa Clara Invitational. Legacy finished last year's tournament in a tie for eighth, his best finish in 2002-03.

The tournament will feature two rounds on Monday starting at 7:30 a.m. and then one final round on Tuesday, also at 7:30 p.m.
