Craig Nitti becomes the second Lion all-time to earn invitation to an MSL Combine.


Matt Kovar begins his fourth season of collegiate soccer with the Lions...earned his third straight all-conference award last season...arguably the most athletic player ever to don a Lions' jersey...should be considered an All-America of the top defensive players in the country...nearly unbeatable in the air...will serve as a team captain this season.

At LMU-2003

Played in all 20 games for the Lions while making 18 starts...led the team in shots (34) and assists (8)...assist total was tops in the West Coast Conference...posted a season-high six shots against Sacramento State (Sept. 14)...scored goals against Portland (Oct. 31) and Santa Clara (Nov. 15) resulting in wins for LMU...had double-assist games against Michigan State (Sept. 1) and Oral Roberts (Sept. 19)...named to the LMU Fall Classic All-Tournament team...selected as the WCC Player of the Week (Nov. 17).


Played in 17 games and started 15...was an All-WCC second-team pick and an NSCAA third-team All-Far West selection...took 12 shots, six of which were on goal...scored his first collegiate goal against San Jose State (Sept. 29)...scored again while playing Gonzaga (Nov. 10) and UCLA in the postseason (Nov. 27)...first two scores came as the game-winning goals...named to Soccer America National Team of the Week (Nov. 4-10).


Played in and started 17 games for the Lions...took eight shots on the year, four of which were shots on goal...collected five assists and five points...five assists tied for the team lead...picked up a season-high two assists against Saint Mary's (Nov. 4).

Kovar is a 2001 graduate of Peninsula High School in Palos Verdes, CA...a three-time letterwinner in soccer...captained his junior and senior squads...a three-time all-league pick...was named second-team All-CIF and Far West Regional All-American during his senior campaign...a two-time member of the Daily Breeze All-Area team...named Player of the Year by the Daily Breeze...was also selected as the Bay League's MVP...prep coach was Bruce Myree.


Matthew John Kovar was born on Feb. 15, 1983 in Torrance, CA...the son of Jerry and Linda Kovar...has one brother, Jeff...names playing basketball, tennis and surfing as his hobbies...lists pasta as his favorite food...a business major.
