LOS ANGELES - Ryan Felix converted a penalty kick goal four minutes before halftime and Leon Prikhodovskiy netted the eventual game-winner in the 64th minute as the LMU men's soccer team won its season opener, 2-1, over visiting Florida International.

The Lions (1-0-0) dominated the attack, outshooting the Golden Panthers (0-1-0) 16-4 for the balance of the game.

With just over a minute to play in the first half, Pedro Velazquez was taken down in the box, drawing a yellow card to the FIU defender and a PK opportunity for the Lions. Ryan Felix converted the PK to send LMU into the locker room with a 1-0 advantage.

Prikhodovskiy then made it 2-0 LMU when he collected an FIU misclear outside the top of the 18-yard box and slammed it home.

The Golden Panthers cut the Lions' lead in half at the 70:34 mark when Roberto Alterio tapped in a close range shot off an assist by Nelson Milsaint. But stye would get no closer as the Lions hung on for the win.

LMU hits the road for its next three games, beginning with a short trip to Cal State Fullerton on Friday, Sept. 6. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
