LOS ANGELES - Despite an even 7-7 shot count for the two teams, only 24th-ranked Tulsa found the back of the net as the LMU men's soccer team fell, 3-0, Sunday at Sullivan Field.
Cristian Mata put the visiting Golden Hurricanes (3-2-0) on the board in the 11th minute, taking the ball to the left endline, cutting it back and sending a shot into the far post netting. Omar Mata made it 2-0 Tulsa at 38:28 when he headed home a cross from Akeil Barrett.
The Lions picked up their attack in the second half, outshooting the Golden Hurricanes 5-2 in the period. Mason McDowell came off the bench to lead the Lions with two shots, both on goal. Tulsa goalkeeper Mark Pais made a pair of saves on the day while also breaking up numerous LMU set pieces, keeping the Lions from many quality chances inside the box.
In the 63rd minute, Christian Mata added his second strike of the game, sending home a shot from eight yards out directly in front of the goalmouth. Bryce Follensbee was credited with an assist on the play.
The Lions' six-game homestand concludes Sunday, Sept. 16 when they host crosstown rival UCLA. Kick off at Sullivan Field is scheduled for 2 p.m.
