NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Loyola Marymount men's soccer team picked up its first win of the season this morning at the Matador Soccer Invitational, defeating American University 3-2. Joe Stoakley started the scoring for LMU (1-2-1) in the eighth minute, getting a pass from Sean Rhynard and coasting through the American defense and past goalkeeper Chris Sedlak for a 1-0 lead.

American (2-3) would tie it up though in the 37th minute when Garth Juckem beat LMU keeper Shaun Kalnasy one-on-one at 36:28. But the Lions roared in the early part of the final 45 minutes to take the momentum. Armando Melendez scored off a free kick from just outside the penalty box at 47:13 to make it 2-1 and Aneesh Rana added another scored 110 seconds later when he headed in a pass from Diego Barrera.
