SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Despite a busy offensive threatening night for both sides, an early second-half goal by UC Santa Barbara was the only tally of the game as the LMU men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to the Gauchos Sunday at Harder Stadium.
The Lions conclude the non-conference portion of the 2013 season with a 4-2-1 record and have not allowed more than one goal scored against them in a single match. UCSB improved to 5-4-0 overall.
Following a scoreless first half that saw four LMU shots to seven for the Gauchos, UCSB's Goffin Boyoko was able to push a shot into the right corner of the net after receiving a through ball from Ismaila Jome. Marshall Cazares also earned an assist on the play.
LMU had four quality opportunities late in the contest as it pressed for the equalizer, but shots by Adrien Perez and David Flores were saved by UCSB goalkeeper Josh McNeely, John McFarlin had a shot blocked and Craig Nitti's header attempt was wide of the goalmouth.
McFarlin, Nitti and Perez had two shots each while Paul Blanchette collected eight saves in goal.
The Lions' 12-game West Coast Conference schedule kicks off Wednesday, Oct. 2 at San Diego. Kick off in Torero Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
