LOS ANGELES – New Mexico (6-3-1) earned a shutout victory over LMU (2-7-2) on Wednesday night at Sullivan Field, defeating the Lions 3-0. The game remained scoreless through the first half, but the Lobos netted all three goals in the second to secure the victory.
New Mexico’s first goal came at the 66:46 mark when Aaron Herrera punched in a free kick from the 20-yard line following a LMU foul.
The Lobos struck again nearly four minutes later, at 70:53, when Devin Boyce brought the ball down the center of the field and sent a shot past Lions keeper Collin Partee and into the back left of the net.
With the Lions playing a man down following a red card issued to Gerardo Lopez in the 78th minute, Aaron Scott scored New Mexico’s final goal of the game at the 86:08 minute mark as he received a pass from Herrera, turned and landed his shot to the near post.
The Lobos tallied 17 shots in the win, while LMU finished with 11 on the night. New Mexico keeper Jason Beaulieu registered seven saves and Partee had six saves for LMU.
The Lions travel to San Diego for the team’s first match of conference play on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 5:00 p.m.
