Lions Thump Broncos
Four Lions scored and John McFarlin added two more assists to his name as the LMU men's soccer team shut out Santa Clara, 4-0, Sunday.

LOS ANGELES - In the near 90 degree heat at Sullivan Field Sunday afternoon, the Lions' offense was just as hot as they exploded for three second-half goals in a 4-0 shutout of Santa Clara in West Coast Conference men's soccer action.
The Lions move to 5-2-2 overall and 1-0-1 in West Coast Conference play. Santa Clara drops to 5-5-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the WCC.
LMU held a 9-0 shot advantage in the first half and gave itself an edge in the 25th minute when Dylan Seedman intercepted a Bronco pass out of the back, beat his defender left and sent a shot into the far right post for an LMU 1-0 lead.
And then came the fire. Right out of the gates in the second half, the Lions put the game away with there goals in a five minute span. Just 2:30 into the half, Juan De Rada notched his fourth goal of the season by beating Santa Clara goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh 1v1 inside the six and tapping a shot into the open net. John McFarlin and Adrien Perez earned assists on the goal.
Less than one minute later, De Rada was taken down just inside the box, earning the Lions a penalty kick attempt. Craig Nitti sent his shot left, McIntosh dove right and it was 3-0 LMU.
Perez closed the door four minutes later with his fourth goal of the season off assists from McFarlin and Sean Sears. The Lions outshot Santa Clara 19-3 in their third shutout of the year.
LMU hits the road next week, traveling to WCC rivals Gonzaga on Friday and Portland on Sunday.
