LOS ANGELES - The Loyola Marymount men’s soccer team (4-11-1, 2-4-0 WCC) scored two second-half goals to earn a 2-1 victory over the Santa Clara Broncos (2-13-1, 2-3-1 WCC) on Sunday for the team’s Senior Day. LMU recognized the team’s 10 seniors (John Bovill, Griffin Bell, Alvaro Madrigal, Connor Johnson, Grant Sampson, Collin Partee, Dante Pezzi, Cruz Corral, Carl Rubschlager) prior to the match.

“It was nice to get a win on Senior Day for such a large impactful group of guys,” Lions head coach Paul Krumpe said. “They showed some mettle today, being down late in the game and fighting back and getting two goals in the second half. I’m proud of the team. We still have another game to play up in San Francisco, and we’re going to go out and try to win that one too.”

Santa Clara got on the board first in today’s contest, as Carlos Delgadillo scored his sixth goal of the season off an assist from teammate Nate Shue.

The Broncos held a 1-0 edge until the 76:49 minute mark of the game, when LMU midfielder Rodrigo San Roman headed the ball into the back of the net off a corner kick from teammate Lucky Puengrod. The Lions struck again at 84:11 when Khris Fourcand received a cross from Grant Sampson and sent his shot past Santa Clara keeper Dakota Havlick. San Roman and Fourcand each now have two goals on the season.

The Lions held off the Broncos for the final six minutes of play to earn the 2-1 victory. LMU finished its home schedule with a 4-3-1 record at Sullivan Field.

Carl Rubschlager was in goal for the Lions in the first half, registering three saves. Collin Partee took over in the second, finishing with four saves on the day. Havlick had four saves in net for Santa Clara.

Santa Clara outshot LMU 17-14, and the Lions edged the Broncos in corner kicks, 3-2.

The Lions travel to San Francisco for the team’s season finale on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m.
