LOS ANGELES - The annual battle between LMU and Santa Clara did not disappoint as the two West Coast Conference rivals took to the pitch Sunday on the Lions’ Sullivan Field. For the ninth time in the last 15 meetings, the match went into extra time, but it would be the Broncos who would come away victorious, 2-1, on the Lions’ Senior Sunday.

Santa Clara’s Carlos Delgadillo found the back of the net at the 96:05 mark to snap the 1-1 regulation tie. The Broncos improve to 9-7-1 overall and 4-1-1 in WCC play. LMU falls to 8-9-0 overall and 3-3- in league play.

After playing to a scoreless draw in the first half, the Broncos struck first on a Dylan Autran goal in the 69th minute.

Cruz Corral responded for the Lions at the 79:14 mark to knot the score at one goal apiece. Alvaro Madrigal and Maurice Morton earned assists on the goal as their passion combination across the field set up Corral for his right-footed boot from 14 yards out.

Both goalkeepers came up with big plays in the match as LMU’s Paul Blanchette finished with four saves and SCU’s Kendall McIntosh had seven.

The Lions close out the 2015 season on Saturday, Nov. 14 at San Francisco.
