Men's Soccer Ties Santa Clara
Griffin Bell scored for the Lions as they earned a 1-1 draw at Santa Clara Sunday.
LOS ANGELES - For the fourth straight outing, an LMU men's soccer match rolled into double overtime. And for the third time during that span, the match resulted in a draw as the Lions settled for a 1-1 final at Santa Clara Sunday afternoon.
With one match remaining on the 2014 slate, the Lions move to 8-4-6 overall and 2-1-3 in West Coast Conference play. The Broncos now sit at 6-7-4 on the season and 2-2-1 in the WCC.
Following a scoreless first half that saw LMU hold a 6-3 shot advantage, the Lions broke the ice just seven minutes into the second period. Griffin Bell would collect a loose ball in the box following an Alvaro Madrigal corner kick and bury it in the back of the net.
LMU was just four minutes from holding on for a 1-0 shutout when Santa Clara's Steve Eneme would connect on the equalizer, sending the match into extra time.
The Lions outshot the Broncos 6-3 in the two extra periods, but the two put on frame resulted in Carl Warrwik saves as LMU settled for its sixth draw of the year.
LMU returns to Sullivan Field for the final time this season on Saturday, Nov. 15, hosting San Diego at 7:30 p.m. The Lions' senior class will be honored in a brief ceremony prior to the match.
