Galaxy Select Torres in MLS Draft

Los Angeles, CA (Jan. 17) - Senior Arturo Torres was selected by the Los Angeles Galaxy with the 19th overall pick in the 2003 MLS SuperDraft held at the Convention Center in Kansas City, Mo., on Friday afternoon. Torres,a third-team All-America selection finished his LMU career ranked sixth in the West Coast Conference record books with 46 career goals. He finished his senior season leading the Lions to the second round of the NCAA College Cup by scoring eight goals with five assist for a total of 21 points. As a senior, he earned All-WCC first-team honors. Among his list of accolades this year are WCC Player of the Week, Soccer America and College Soccer News National Team of the Week honors. Torres scored the game-winning goal against Cal State Northridge to give the Lions their first ever postseason win. In a hard fought 0-0 tie Torres gave LMU the lead as he headed in a pass from junior Yuji Teranishi in the 83rd-minute. For his efforts he garnered College Soccer News Team of the Week honor. The forward and Wilmington, CA, native, also ranks fourth on the all-time points list with 113 career points in the WCC. He already owns the LMU records for career goals (46), points (112)and assists (20).
