LOS ANGELES, Calif. - When he enters the LMU Hall of Fame on January 29, Arturo Torres, Jr. will become the first men's soccer player in program history selected to the elite group.

No stranger to being an inaugural member, Torres is also the only LMU soccer player in program history to have been named WCC Player of the Year, earning the honor in 2000. A 2002 NSCAA third team All-American, Torres was also part of the NSCAA All-Far West Region first team in 2001 and 2002. Torres currently holds five LMU career records, including 46 goals, 114 points, 22 assists, 14 game-winning goals, and 225 shots. Along with that, the four-time first team All-West Coast Conference selection ranks eighth in games played with 73. Torres holds each of the top-three spots in the LMU single-season record book for goals with 16 in 1999, and 11 apiece in 2000 and 2001. He also owns the record for single-season assists, collecting 10 in 2000.

Regarded as one of the best men's soccer players in program history, Torres guided the Lions to their first 10-win season in 2000, finishing 10-7-1 overall. Continuing to elevate the bar, Torres and the Lions made their first two trips to the NCAA Tournament in 2001 and 2002, capped by a program-best 15 victories in 2002.

Torres will join Kate Murray (women's basketball, 2004), Edit Pakay (women's tennis/cross country, 2003), Kevin Witt (men's water polo, 2003), the 1950 Loyola football team, and the 1989 women's rowing four that won a national championship as the newest members of the LMU Hall of Fame. The four individuals bring the number of members in the Hall of Fame, which was started in 1986, to 108. The two teams will be the fifth and sixth inducted into the Hall of Fame, as they join the 1969 football team, the 1981 women's rowing team, the 1990 men's basketball team, and the 1986 baseball team.

The Hall of Fame inductees will be introduced during halftime at the LMU men's basketball game against Santa Clara on Saturday, January 29, 2011. For game tickets, please contact Scott Higdon at 310-258-2680.
