Assistant Coach Michael Erush to Coach Hollywood United and at Maccabiah Games
May 18, 2009
Los Angeles - LMU assistant coach Michael Erush has been named the Head Coach for Hollywood United Football Club of the USL Premier Development League and also will be assisting with the USA Men's Soccer Open team that will compete at the 18th Maccabiah Games in July in Israel. Erush will continue to serve as assistant coach to former U.S. National team member Paul Krumpe at LMU, where he will be entering his third year on the coaching staff. "I am extremely excited and grateful for the opportunity to coach the Hollywood United Hitmen PDL team," Erush said. "We have a great group of talent currently with the team and over the next couple of weeks, we will be adding players that will help us win games and play a very attractive brand of football. We have great ownership, a superior support and administrative staff, so in reality, there are no real impediments to our being competitive from Day 1." The 2009 season marks the inaugural year for Hollywood United, which plays in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference. Erush's words have proved prophetic so far as Hollywood United is 4-0-0 so far this season. Included on the team's roster is former Lion standout Nick Blanco, who was recognized on the PDL Team of the Week for May 4. The USL Premier Development League (PDL) is the amateur league of the United Soccer Leagues in the United States and Canada. It is currently the top level men's amateur competition in the United States, and has 68 teams competing in four conferences, split into eight regional divisions; unofficially, it is considered to be the fourth tier of competition, behind Major League Soccer, the USL First Division and the USL Second Division, and roughly equal with the National Premier Soccer League and the Pacific Coast Soccer League. Hollywood United plays its home games at Palisades High School in Pacific Palisades.
Erush will also be serving under Head Coach Seth Roland from Fairleigh Dickinson University on the coaching staff for the USA team that will compete against over 20 countries at the Maccabiah Games this summer. Held every four years in Israel, the Maccabiah Games is the third-largest sports even in the world, attracting the most outstanding Jewish athletes from around the world, growing to over 7,000 athletes from over 50 countries. This will be the first year that Erush will coach at the Maccabiah Games, although he formerly played as a member of the US team, winning a silver medal at the 2005 games. Erush was a standout player for the Lions from 2000-03, serving as team captain as both a junior and a senior and earning All-West Coast Conference awards every year. He was a First Team All-Region selection and a member of the Jewish Sports Review All-America Team in 2003. Following graduation, he became the third LMU player to join Major League Soccer, spending two years in the league before playing in Israel, Hungary, and Moldova. - GO LIONS - |
