LOS ANGELES - Training for the the 50th season of LMU men's soccer began Wednesday morning as the 30-member squad took to the pitch for the first of many double-day sessions. Energy was high for the defending West Coast Conference Champions as they begin their quest for the program's third league title and seventh NCAA Tournament appearance.

The LMU Sports Network caught up with senior defender Ryan Felix and freshman forward Cruz Corral to get their impressions following the team's first practice.

The core of the 2013 squad returns this fall, including the defensive core of Felix, Craig Nitti, Jack McCracken, Mark Dotseth and goalkeeper Paul Blanchette who led the Lions to seven shutouts a year ago. Other key returners include senior midfielder John McFarlin, sophomore midfielder/forward Adrien Perez and forward Sebastian De Rada.

LMU opens the 2014 season, the 50th in program history, on August 23, hosting Cal State Northridge in an exhibition match. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Sullivan Field.
