LOS ANGELES - In the midst of preseason training for the upcoming 2013 season, the LMU men's and women's soccer teams made an appearance at the Soccer For Hope Mission Viejo Annual Soccer Camp.

Soccer For Hope is a non-profit organization focusing on pediatric cancer research and family support. Since its inception in 1997, Soccer For Hope has progressed from an annual local event in Southern California to a nationwide charity that benefits thousands of children and their families. The Mission Viejo camp is one of a handful of annual events run by the organization to help raise funds and awareness in the fight against cancer.

"We have been represented at Soccer For Hope for nearly a decade," said LMU men's head coach Paul Krumpe. "Oliver Wyss, the organization's founder, is a good friend of ours and we do what we can to go down and run their camp for a day. This year, for the first time, the (LMU) women's team came down as well and it was fantastic.

"We had about 60 LMU soccer representatives who did a very professional job running the camp," Krumpe continued. "All of our kids like to work with younger players so its a great opportunity for them to reach out and have fun while also making a big difference."

LMU women's Head Coach Michelle Myers echoed Krumpe's statement. "Anytime you give up a practice opportunity during your double days you have to ask yourself is it the best thing to do for your team? In this case, I truly believe it was worth the time.

"Cancer has touched the lives of so many of our family and friends and when you see it affecting the lives of young children you can't help but want to raise funds and awareness to stop this horrible disease," Myers said. "If our time helping with the clinic helps the fight against cancer in any way we are proud to be able to offer our services. Our players enjoy working with the children and showing them new soccer games and skills. It was a fun day for everyone.
