Lions Tabbed Third in WCC Preseason Poll
LMU men's soccer has been selected to finish third in what should be a hotly contests West Coast Conference title race this fall. Five of the seven teams received at least one first place vote in the 2013 WCC Preseason Poll, as voted on by each team's head coach.

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - LMU men's soccer has been selected to finish third in what should be a hotly contests West Coast Conference title race this fall. Five of the seven teams received at least one first place vote in the 2013 WCC Preseason Poll, as voted on by each team's head coach.
Santa Clara, with one first place vote, edged the field with 47 points to be selected as the preseason favorite. San Diego, with two first place votes, was picked second with 45 points, followed by LMU with two first place votes and 44 points.
Picked fourth was San Francisco with one first place vote and 41 points, followed by Saint Mary's in fifth (one first place vote and 38 points), Portland in sixth (34 points) and Gonzaga in seventh (six points).
Also released was the 2013 Preseason All-WCC Team, including LMU sophomore striker Pedro Velazquez. The 2012 WCC Freshman of the Year, Velazquez was also named to the All-WCC second team and the WCC Freshman Team after leading the Lions in total points (14) and goals (six).
LMU kicks off its "Season Under the Lights" on Saturday at 7 p.m., hosting Cal State Northridge in an exhibition match at Sullivan Field. The Lions official season opener is Friday, Aug. 30 against Florida International, also at 7 p.m. on Sullivan Field.
