San Marino, Italy - The Loyola Marymount University men's soccer team downed San Marino C-2, 2-1 this afternoon to finish its European Tour with a 4-1 record. Sophomore Aneesh Rana played a part in both goals, scoring the game winner.
After a scoreless first half, San Marino took a brief 1-0 lead in the 50th minute. Rana drew a penalty kick in the 55th minute off of a pass from Diego Barrera, and Armando Melendez converted the kick to tie the game. Rana scored the game winner after he stole the ball from the opposing goalkeeper to give the Lions the victory.
"It was very worthwhile to play in England and Italy, and experiencing the different soccer styles and different cultures. We look forward to getting back to the US and applying those experiences to our upcoming season," said LMU head coach Paul Krumpe.
The Lions open up their season on September 3rd at the Diadora Challenge, hosted by Creighton University. LMU will take on Southwest Missouri State in its first game, and Creighton University on Sunday, September 5th.
