LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Senior forward David Niemeyer has been named to the ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 Team for the second straight year. He was selected for his academic accomplishments as well as his play on the soccer field. Niemeyer will graduate a semester early with honors in Political Science, and currently has a 3.81 GPA.

Niemeyer has been on the Athletic Honor Roll Dean's List with GPA over 3.50 all six semesters that he has been at LMU, and he was the recipient of the Kilp Alumni Scholarship. The forward has the highest GPA among current male student athletes, and is a member of the National Political Science Honor Society. Niemeyer was named to the WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll in each of his first three years at LMU, and to the 2004 and 2005 WCC All-Academic team. The Long Beach, CA native is minoring in Business.

On the field, Niemeyer has succeeded as well. He is fourth on the team in scoring with three goals and one assist this season. He was named the WCC Player of the Week, and earned a spot on the Harvard Invitational All-tournament team. He gave LMU a 1-0 lead against Central Connecticut State, and scored the game-tying goal against Rhode Island. He has three goals and one assist for the year.

Niemeyer and the Lions (9-7-2) wrap up the regular season with a showdown at San Francisco on Sunday afternoon. LMU currently sits in second place in the WCC, and a win would guarantee that the Lions finish second in the conference. LMU is also hoping that a win would vault the team in the NCAA Tournament.
