Niemeyer and Souza Earn Academic Honors
Junior midfielders named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America District 8 Team.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Junior midfielders David Niemeyer and Diego Souza have been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America District 8 Team. LMU is one of just two schools with two players on the District 8 team, and both student-athletes are now eligible for the national ballot. They were selected for their academic accomplishments as well as their play on the soccer field.
Niemeyer, a Political Science major with a 3.76 GPA, has been on the Athletic Honor Roll Dean's List with GPA over 3.50 all four semesters that he has been at LMU, and he was the recipient of the Kilp Alumni Scholarship. Niemeyer was named to the WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll in both of his first two years at LMU, and to the 2004 WCC All-Academic team. On the field, Niemeyer scored a goal in LMU's first victory of the season, and assisted on first goal of conference play. An impressive 75% of his shots have been on goal this season. He has started 13 of the team's 16 games at the wide midfielder spot. The Long Beach, CA native is minoring in Business.
Souza, a Business Administration major with a 3.72 GPA, registered two assists in LMU's 3-1 win over #5 Santa Clara, and is 6th in the WCC in assists per game in conference games. His assist gave LMU a 1-0 lead over San Diego. Off the field, he has been on the Athletic Honor Roll with a GPA over 3.50 in three out of four semesters. The junior from Torrance, CA was named to the WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll in both of his first two years at LMU, and to the 2004 WCC All-Academic team. Last year, he was named the student-athlete with highest GPA in LMU's College of Business Administration, and had the highest GPA on LMU men's soccer team in 2004-05. He is also the Linkey Booth Scholarship winner. Souza has appeared in 15 games for the Lions.
