SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Loyola Marymount freshman forward Pedro Velazquez has been named the West Coast Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week for November 5, 2012. This marks the first such honor for a Lion this season.
Velazquez provided the helper on Sean Sears' goal just 48 seconds into the match at Portland on Friday, giving the Lions the 1-0 advantage. LMU went on to win 2-1. Two days later in Spokane, Velazquez notched his fifth goal of the season in the 8th minute, then capped the LMU scoring with his second goal of the game in the 59th minute.
Velazquez helped keep the Lions, who are now 5-10-3 overall and 3-5-2 in WCC play, unbeaten in its last three matches.
The Lions close out the 2012 season at home this week, hosting Santa Clara on Friday and Saint Mary's on Sunday.
