Lions Can't Complete Comeback
Facing a two-gaol deficit for the second time in three games, the LMU men's soccer team could not complete the comeback on the road, falling 2-1 to Gonzaga Friday in West Coast Conference action.

LOS ANGELES - Holding a four-point lead in the West Coast Conference standings, the LMU men's soccer team begins a key three-game homestand this week as they chase their second league crown in four years. On Friday, Nov. 8, the Lions host Portland at 7 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m. tilt on Sunday, Nov. 10 versus Gonzaga.

LMU enters the week riding a five-game win streak and sitting at 10-3-2 overall and 6-1-1 in West Coast Conference play ... The Lions' 19 points put them atop the league standings, followed by Santa Clara (15 points) and Saint Mary's (14 points) ... Goals by Ryan Felix and Jack McCracken gave LMU a pair of 1-0 wins on the road last week ... McCracken earned a spot on the Team of the Week for his performance ... John McFarlin tallied his WCC-leading ninth assist of the season on Felix's game-winner while freshman Adrien Perez assisted McCracken's game-winner ... Perez was named WCC Player of the Month for October ... McFarlin leads the Lions in points with 15 (3g, 9a) ... Perez is second with a team-high five goals to go along with four assists for 14 points ... A dozen different players have scored this year ... LMU has played four overtime games, remaining unbeaten at 2-0-2.

John McFarlin's nine assists are one shy of the LMU single-season record of 10, set by Rafael Baca in 2010 ... McFarlin tied the LMU single-game record with his three helpers on Sept. 20 versus Sacramento State ... Paul Blanchette recorded his fifth and sixth shutouts of the season last weekend, matching the LMU single-season record ... The 1-0 win at San Francisco on Nov. 3 was LMU's 10th victory of the season, marking the first time the Lions had reached double-digit wins since 2010 when they finished 12-6-2 and earned their first WCC title ... The double-digit win total is the seventh in Head Coach Paul Krumpe's 16-year tenure ... LMU's current five-game wins break is the longest since the 2010 season when they won five straight from Oct. 1-13 ... The longest win streak during Krumpe's tenure is seven, set in 2001.

Portland enters the week at 8-8-0 overall and 3-5-0 in WCC play ... The Pilots are coming off of a pair of one-goal losses at home last week in a 2-1 final versus Gonzaga and a 1-0 overtime loss to Santa Clara ... Despite the recent results, the Pilots have one of the most dynamic forwards in the nation in freshman Eddie Sanchez ... the rookie leads the WCC in goals (11) and is tied for eighth in the nation ... LMU improved its all-time record against Portland to 12-21-2 after holding on for a 2-1 win at Merlo Field on Oct. 13 ... The Lions played the final 30 minute of the match with just nine players due to a pair of issued red cards, but held strong defensively for the win.

Gonzaga enters the week at 8-4-3 overall and 3-2-2 in the WCC ... The Zags will face San Diego on Friday before making the trip to Sullivan Field on Sunday ... Last week, the Zags earned a second straight win over Portland, 2-1, and then fell 2-1 to Santa Clara ... Clark Phillips leads Gonzaga with seven goals while Conner Bevans has chipped in four ... In goal, Ryan Caballero has six shutouts on the season ... Gonzaga represents LMU's lone WCC blemish this fall as the Zags held on for a 2-1 win on Oct. 11 in Spokane ... Since the 1992 season, the two teams are new deadlocked in their all-time series at 15-15-1.
