Men's Soccer Hosts Broncos, Gaels in Final Weekend
The Lions host Santa Clara on Friday and Saint Mary's on Sunday.

LOS ANGELES - The LMU men's soccer team closes out the 2012 season at home on Sullivan Field this week, hosting WCC rivals Santa Clara on Friday, Nov. 9 and Saint Mary's on Sunday, Nov. 11. Lion seniors Mitch Boland and John LaCouture will be honored in a brief ceremony prior to Sunday's kick off.

LIONS' LAST LINE
The Lions remained unbeaten in their last three matches with road wins over Portland, 2-1, and Gonzaga, 3-1... The consecutive victories marked the first-back-to-back wins of the season for LMU... At Portland, Sean Sears scored 48 seconds into the match and Juan De Rada added a goal in the 59th minute... Two days later, Pedro Velazquez, who had contributed an assist against the Pilots, scored twice, Eric Brunter added a third goal and the Lions clinched the home-and-home series over the Zags...
INSIDE THE LIONS
The Lions enter their final week of play riding a three-match unbeaten streak... That includes back-to-back wins over Portland and Gonzaga... Freshman Pedro Velazquez scored two goals and added an assist in two games last week, earning WCC Player of the Week honors... Velazquez leads the squad with six goals while sophomore John McFarlin leads the team in assists with four... In addition to Velazquez, seven additional Lions have found the back of the net, including a pair of goals from Craig Nitti, Sean Sears and Eric Brunter... Paul Blanchette made his first collegiate appearance at the end of the Cal State Fullerton match on Sept. 7, and then earned his first start against Tulsa (Sept. 9)... The freshman has now appeared in the last 15 matches, making 74 saves and holding a 1.34 GAA... LMU has six overtime outings under their belt this season, and have faired well in those matches, going 2-1-3... The Lions have been outscored 25-17 overall in their 18 matches thus far... The 3-1 win over Gonzaga on Nov. 4 marked the first time LMU has scored three goals in a match... LMU has also been held scoreless seven times... The 31-member side features 12 freshmen, 12 sophomores, four juniors and three seniors... Twenty-four different players have earned at least one start this season... Mitch Boland is the only player to start all 16 games... Head Coach Paul Krumpe is in his 15th year at the helm of the Lion program...
HEAD-TO-HEAD VS. THE BRONCOS
The Lions are 9-23-6 all-time against Santa Clara... LMU has fared better at home, holding a 6-9-2 record... Santa Clara clinched a 1-0 win over the Lions when the teams met earlier this season... Erik Hurtado scored the game's lone goal in the 51st minute...
THE SANTA CLARA BRONCOS
Santa Clara enters the week at 10-6-1 overall and 7-2-1 in WCC play, good for second place behind San Diego... The Broncos are unbeaten in their last three outings, including wins over Gonzaga and San Francisco and a tie against Saint Mary's... Erik Hurtado leads Santa Clara and the WCC with 14 goals... He also has five assists on the season for 33 total points... In goal, Larry Jackson has played all but one match, posting six shutouts, 57 saves and an 0.84 GAA...
HEAD-TO-HEAD VS. THE GAELS
The Lions are 13-19-3 all-time against Saint Mary's... That record includes a 9-7-0 record in Los Angeles... When the teams met earlier this season in Moraga the result was a 2-2 double-overtime draw... The Lions scored first on a goal by Ryan Felix and Saint Mary's evened the score before the half... LMU took a 2-1 lead just 57 seconds into the second period, but a late Gaels' goal forced overtime and, despite three shots apiece, neither team found the back of the net a third time...
THE SAINT MARY'S GAELS
Saint Mary's enters the week riding a six-match unbeaten streak... After posting four consecutive victories, they have earned back-to-back double overtime draws against Santa Clara and San Francisco... At 9-3-5 overall and 5-2-3 in the WCC, the Gaels currently sit in third place... They play at first-place San Diego on Friday before making the trip to Los Angeles on Sunday... Defense is key for the Gaels who have allowed just 14 goals in 17 matches... Andre Rawls has started all 17 matches, posting eight shutouts while holding a 0.74 GAA... Offensively, 10 total Gaels have scored, led by Trevor Lindquist's five goals...
