Late Rally Propels Shorthanded Lions to Draw
Trailing 2-0 and and forced to play a man down from the 65th minute on, the LMU men's soccer team rallied late to earn a 2-2 double overtime draw against San Diego Wednesday night in both teams' West Coast Conference opener.

In the near 90 degree heat at Sullivan Field Sunday afternoon, the Lions' offense was just as hot as they exploded for three second-half goals in a 4-0 shutout of Santa Clara in West Coast Conference men's soccer action.

LOS ANGELES - It all comes down to the final week. Battling for top billing in the West Coast Conference, and a bid to the NCAA Tournament, the LMU men's soccer team celebrates Senior Night Wednesday, Nov. 13 against San Diego before traveling to Santa Clara on Friday, Nov. 15 for a battle with second-place Santa Clara. Kick off at Sullivan Field is scheduled for 6 p.m. while start time in Santa Clara is set for 7 p.m.

LMU enters the final week of the regular season with an 11-4-2 overall mark and 7-2-1 record in WCC play ... Their 22 points in league action puts them in first place, just ahead of second-place Santa Clara with 21 points ... Both teams have two games remaining on their slate, including a head-to-head match-up on Friday in Santa Clara ... Last weekend the Lions split a pair of games at home, earning a huge 4-3 win over Portland before dropping a heartbreaking 1-0 double-overtime decision to Gonzaga ... Freshman forward Adrien Perez had a had trick in the win over Portland, the first three-goal performance for a Lion since Andres Muriagui netted four goals in a 5-2 win over Cal State LA in 2001 ... Perez was named WCC Player of the Month in October while Jack McCracken was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week on Nov. 4 for his game-winner at San Francisco on Nov. 3 ...

John McFarlin matched Rafael Baca's 2010 single-season assist record (10) with his helper on Perez' first goal against Portland ... McFarlin tied the LMU single-game record with his three helpers on Sept. 20 versus Sacramento State ... Paul Blanchette's six shutouts matches the LMU single-season record ... The Lions have now reached double-digit wins for the first time since 2010 when they finished 12-6-2 and earned their first WCC title ... The double-digit win total is the seventh in Head Coach Paul Krumpe's 16-year tenure ... Until having the streak snapped on Sunday against Gonzaga, LMU had won six straight matches, the longest since the 2010 season when they won five straight from Oct. 1-13.
INSIDE THE MATCH-UP: San Diego
San Diego enters Friday's match at 6-8-4 overall and 2-5-3 in WCC play ... The Toreros picked up their first two league wins just last week, topping Gonzaga, 3-1, and Portland, 4-1 ... Four goals was a season-high for USD ... Connor Brandt leads the squad with five goals and six assists while Michael Turner and Torrey DeArmas have four goals apiece ... USD has been shut out six times this season while also holding opponents scoreless on four occasions.
WHEN LAST WE MET: San Diego
The Lions and Toreros kicked off West Coast Conference play by playing to a 2-2 draw on Oct. 2 in San Diego ... USD opened up a 2-0 lead, but the Lions stormed back on goals by Adrien Perez and David Flores to force overtime and the eventual double-overtime draw ... LMU also accomplished all of that playing a man down after Pedro Velazquez was issued a red card at the 65-minute mark ... The tie snapped a five-game losing streak for LMU versus the Toreros.

Santa Clara enters the week at 10-8-0 overall and 7-3-0 in West Coast Conference play ... The Broncos picked up a pair of big one-goal wins last week, topping Saint Mary's 1-0 on Nov. 8 and San Francisco 2-1, moving within one point of LMU in the WCC standings ... Harrison Hanley paces the Bronco attack with five goals and two assists ... Carlos Montes has scored four times and Edson Cardona has there goals and one assist ... In goal, Kendall McIntosh has five shutouts.
WHEN LAST WE MET: Santa Clara
LMU exploded for a season-high four goals in a 4-0 shutout of Santa Clara back on Oct. 6 at Sullivan Field ... The Lions held a dominant 19-3 shot advantage and got goals by Dylan Seedman, Juan De Rada, Craig Nitti and Adrien Perez ... McFarlin also had a pair of assists in the win ... The 4-0 win was a rare uneven finish between the Lions and Broncos ... Prior to that, six of the last 10 meetings had resulted in a draw ... In the remaining four match-ups, Santa Clara won twice by one-decisions, LMU won once by a 1-0 score and once by a score of 3-0 (in 2008).
