LOS ANGELES - The LMU men's soccer team has drawn the Stanford Cardinal for its first round match-up in the 2013 NCAA Tournament. The teams will face off on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. at Stanford's Laird Q. Cagan Stadium.
This marks the sixth NCAA Tournament appearance for the Lions and first since 2009. LMU was also a tournament selection in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004.
With a 13-4-2 overall record and 9-2-1 WCC mark, LMU closed out the regular-season on Friday as a 1-0 win over Santa Clara earned the Lions their first-ever outright West Coast Conference Championship. LMU had previously tied for the WCC title in 2010.
Stanford becomes the fifth opponent LMU has faced in NCAA Tournament action. The Lions had previously matched up against UCLA three times, Cal State Northridge twice, Santa Clara once and, most recently, Sacramento State.
LMU is 1-2 all-time against the Cardinal, including a 2-1 overtime win at Cagan Stadium on Sept. 21, 2012.
The winner of Thursday night's match-up will travel to face No. 15-seeded Cal State Northridge on Sunday at 7 p.m.
