Davis, Calif. -- The LMU men's tennis team won again Sunday when they took down UC Davis 4-2 on the road. This, after Saturday's win over Sacramento St., brings the Lions to 2-0 on the young season.
The Lions started off strong in doubles play, sweeping the point with two wins. On Court 1, Sebastian Bustamante and Todd Volmari won 6-4 and on Court 3, David Doehring and Daniel Simko won 6-1. These wins nullified the match on Court 2 and gave the Lions a 1-0 team lead heading into singles.
In singles play, the Lions dropped the first two matches that finished, giving the lead to UC Davis. Othar Kordsachia then tied it up for the Lions when he came from a set down to win his match 5-6, 6-5, 6-5 on Court 4. Felix Van Kann took the lead back for LMU when he also came from a set down to win 5-6, 6-5, 6-4 on Court 2. Todd Volmari then clinched the match when he won 6-2, 6-5.
This come-from-behind win for the Lions gives them a 2-0 record under first year head coach Tom Lloyd after ending 2013 with only four team wins. The Lions were picked to finish 8th in the WCC Preseason Coaches' Poll, but seem to have found some new energy. They will have another test when they face UC Santa Barbara on the road next Saturday at 1:00pm.
