RIVERSIDE, Calif. - It may have taken them nearly eight weeks to get it, but the LMU men's tennis team finally got their first team win of the season Saturday. The match at UC Riverside was originally scheduled for Friday before being pushed back to Saturday for weather purposes. But the day's wait was well worth it as the Lions defeated UCR 6-1 to advance to 1-10 and drop the Highlanders to 2-11.
The Lions took care of the doubles point extremely quickly. Todd Volmari and Sebastian Bustamante defeated their opponent 8-2 on Court 1 just before Othar Kordsachia and Felix Van Kann also defeated their opponent 8-2 on Court 2. The two quick wins secured the point for the Lions before UCR won the doubles match on Court 3.
In singles play, the Lions finally strung some wins together, taking five of six matches from the Highlanders. LMU won on Courts 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 to get the 6-1 team victory. Much of the team felt the win was long overdue and will now look to build upon it as the spring season heats up fast.
LMU returns to play at home Sunday when they will take on Gonzaga at 12:00 p.m.
